Consuelo Ramires
Consuelo Ramires truly cares about making her community a better place and takes action to make it happen. She spends countless hours advocating for the rights of the Hispanic and immigrant community in Near Northside, focusing on issues related to domestic workers rights, access to voting and civic engagement and helping the elderly.
Consuelo graduated from Avenue’s Advocacy Fellowship program in 2020, in which resident leaders hone their skills in speaking to their local and state representatives and advocating for neighborhood improvements. Consuelo just earned the national Dorothy Richardson Award for community leadership, one of only five recipients in the country!
Consuelo’s power lies in her ability to connect to others and motivate residents to lift up their voices and advocate for themselves and their community. She is a social media warrior, and shows her neighbors that activism can be done by everyone – regardless of language, age or beliefs. She enlists her two little granddaughters in the work, creating a legacy of leadership. Her influence has engaged hundreds of community residents to vote, take part in the census, attend community meetings and understand that they can make a difference if they get involved

Art on the Avenue is Houston’s largest auction of local art in Houston and benefits Avenue’s work to build and preserve affordable housing and revitalize distressed neighborhoods, while supporting local artists.
